Please share a memory of Marie Nicole to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
******* Obituary for MARIE "NICOLE" GIONET For many reasons this may not read like a traditional obituary, my mother would have wanted it this way; however, this is to serve in lieu of one and to be shared publicly, to announce the sudden passing of Marie 'Nicole' Gionet, (age 56), on May 19th, 2022, at home in Petit de Grat, NS with family by her side. Born in Caraquet, NB during a blinding snowstorm on December 1st, 1965, to Lillian (Marchand) and to the late Aurèle (Gionet). Nicole was setting a precedent for her life on Earth. A snowstorm is beautiful to watch and grow, but much like my mother, a force to be reckoned with. Her cackles rolled the halls of St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre, for 23 years, as a CCA (PCW). Nicole would often be acting the fool with the residents of the nursing home, in hopes of helping them forget their troubles momentarily. More often than not, her fellow colleagues (physicians included), were the subject of her many pranks and jokes, just for the hell of it. My mother's passion for activism, even if it meant to engage and to disrupt, grew like the seed of life itself. She was the proud President of CUPE Local 5032, from its murmurings to inception, until the torch was rightfully passed down. Her most recent endeavor was spreading awareness, through her blog, "Nikky's Corner," broaching sensitive and tough to talk about subjects, like: sexual assault, domestic abuse, mental health, and a myriad of others. My mother was a survivor. For anyone interested in her detailed recollections, of her life, in her own words, she would invite you to read it (nikkyscorner.wordpress.com). With the utmost love, my mother leaves behind my brother and I, Rhéal and Jean-Marc. Her grandchildren Logan, Hayden, Skylar, and their mother Nikita. She would want us to know that her love is unconditional and transcends from this life to the next. Other than her mother, Lillian, Nicole is survived by her siblings Michelle, Annette (Daniel), and Serge (Shelly). Celebrate her beautiful life as if she were still here, she is. Remember the good old days. She will forever be your rock. Her many nephews and nieces that will always know her as 'Tantie'. Joel (Madison), Colton, Kelzie, Simonne (Aidan), Dalton, and Corbin. There is never a day where she was not proud of each and every one of you. Lastly, her three beautiful god daughters. I am confident, that on your darkest days, she will be your beacon of hope. There will be no funeral service. Our family will be gathering privately, to celebrate her love and kindness, at a later date. Any donations that you wish to make in Nicole's honour, should be made to your local Transition House, Women's Sexual Health Centre, or a worthy cause in your heart.
