Please share a memory of Barbara Lee Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of our dear mother and nanny, Barbara Lee Catherine Marchand (nee Lutley) of Louisdale at age 76 on December 9th at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. She was born February 1st, 1946, to the late William and Katherine (nee Hunt) Lutley of Fairview. Barbara is survived by her one and only love, her husband of 54 years, Stephen Paul Marchand. She leaves a legacy of love and caring to her three children Scott (Courtney) Marchand of Fort McMurray, Christopher (Christine) Marchand of Antigonish, and Melissa (Greg) Rioux of Louisdale. "Nanny Barb" will be sorely missed by her five grandchildren, Kyle, Catherine, Ellie, Chantal and Joseé who were the lights of her life. Barbara is also survived by her brother Sanford Lutley of Louisdale and was predeceased by her brother William "Billie" (Jacqueline) Lutley of Lower Sackville. She was like a mother and grandmother to many nieces, nephews, and their children, who she loved as her own. Barb received a diploma from Mount Saint Vincent Academy in 1965 and worked for a short time for MT&T until embracing her true calling of raising her children. She always described these years as the happiest days of her life. They spent many summers camping and at the beach. As her children grew, she busied herself with her many talents and hobbies, including gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, and decorating the house. She was always up for an adventure with her closest friends (Donna, Doris, Elaine, Evelyn, Judy, Sylvia) which led to many fond memories and good stories to tell. She will be remembered by all as a kind and caring soul who was genuinely concerned for others. The family wishes to thank her caring healthcare team of Dr. Marchand and Dorothy Cooper, Dr. Saliba, Dr. Cooper and the Palliative Care Team Kyla MacKeigan, Lesley Lerue, Courtney Mackinnon, staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital and the VON. We are especially grateful for all the family and friends who provided ongoing support during her illness with friendly visits, road trips, meals, and help around the house. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, December 18th, from 6-9 pm in the Glen Sampson Room, Louisdale. Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Barb will be held in St. Louis Church, Louisdale on Monday morning , December 19th at 11 am officiated by Rev. Duncan MacIsaac. Burial to follow in St. Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisdale. Masks are encouraged but not required. Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or the Canadian Cancer Society. We are so blessed to be your family and are all better because of it. To our wife, mom, nanny, aunt, and friend Barb, we "love you this big" and we “love you more".
