Please share a memory of Mary Muriel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BERTHIER, Marie Muriel, Alderney Point It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mama and Mémé on February 12, 2023, at Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Born in Petit de Grat in 1941, she was the daughter of Jeannette (Arsenault) and Hyacinth Samson. She will be greatly missed by her family: son Lester (Stephanie) of West Bay; son Jerome (Alvina) of Arichat; daughter Lisa of Petit de Grat; daughter Jacinta (Max) of Dartmouth; precious grand-daughter Chantal (Marc) of Yellowknife; new family members Christian, Helena, and Madison; brother-in-law Alex (Viny); sisters-in-law Annie (Cyril), Margaret (Bob), and Theresa (Darryl); as well as her god-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. She was predeceased by Abraham, her husband of 49 years in 2012; parents and parents-in-law Tranquil and Mary Catherine Berthier; her siblings and their spouses: Patrick (Elaine), Anita (Roy), Corinne (Fred), Berthilda (Nicolas), Adam, Lloyd and siblings who died in infancy as well as her sister-in-law Gladys. Muriel left home at the age of 17 to attend an 18-month combined Lab and X-Ray training program in St. John’s, NL which was sponsored by St. Anne’s Hospital in Arichat. Upon completion, she returned home and worked as their X-Ray technician for over 40 years. For the first 15 years, she also worked in the blood lab and was known for her gentle poke and for always being there to take an X-ray at all hours, and to help those in need. Muriel will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her quiet strength, courage, and determination, and for her faith and dedication to serving her community. She will always be remembered for her talents as a great cook and baker, and for becoming a quilter and volunteer in her retirement. She enjoyed cards with her husband and their friends, her children, her granddaughter, and her friends as well as her grand-nieces. Muriel always looked forward to a game of Dame de Pique with Therese or "Pay Me" with the girls. Her love of cards was only surpassed by her love of music, and there was nothing that she enjoyed more than having live music and dancing in her kitchen, surrounded by family and friends. We would like to thank the amazing healthcare providers who treated Mom with such wonderful care and compassion over the last few months. Dr. Howard and the GARU Team at St. Martha’s; Drs Fahim and Prasad along with the ‘4 West Team’ at the Aberdeen; and Drs Cooper, DeRoche, and Pluta at Strait Richmond Hospital along with the team of dedicated professionals from dietary, X-Ray, lab, nursing, pharmacy, and rehab. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place April 14th in C.H.Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, Petit de Grat on April 15th at 11am with Rev. John DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat. A reception will be held at La Picasse in Petit de Grat, following the committal. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Anne’s Ladies Auxiliary X-Ray machine fundraising campaign, Étoile de la Mer Cemetery Fund, or GiveWell Canada. Arrangements are under the compassionate care of C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat.
