TOUESNARD, Ian Troy, Potlotek It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ian Touesnard of Potlotek which occurred at the QEII Health Science Centre Infirmary in Halifax on February 19, 2023, with his loving family by his side at the age of 56 years old. Born on August 31, 1966, he was the son of Carole Oakley (Digou) and the late Emile Touesnard. Although Ian grew up in the city of Dartmouth, he much preferred the country and found his place in the community of Potlotek, where he resided for 29 years. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, he could be found fishing at the St. Peters Canal; hunting with his sons, spending time on his land in River Bourgeois, or tinkering in his garage. One of his favorite events he looked forward to attending every year was the annual Potlotek Father’s Day fishing derby that he would go to with his sons and fish all weekend with his friends. He also enjoyed his family’s yearly trip to Hanks Farms where he would pick out the biggest pumpkin to try to make a crazy design on. Ian loved working with his hands and somehow always was able to figure out how to build the things he wanted without having done it before. Ian loved holidays, family traditions, and most importantly, spending time with his kids. If any of his kids or wife needed something, he would drop what he was doing to help them and wanted nothing but success for his children. Many nights were spent helping his daughters with their homework. And although it wasn’t his favorite music, he would take his daughters to their favorite artist's concerts without a complaint. Ian was a kind and funny soul that could talk the ear off of anyone. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed going to work at the Strait Regional Hospital as a site screener as it gave him the opportunity to talk to people all day. He would spend hours visiting his friends or on the phone because he enjoyed telling stories and catching up. Ian was funny without trying and always succeeded in making his wife pee herself laughing. Ian is survived by his mother Carole Oakley; wife of 25 years Laurie Touesnard, and their children Tessa Touesnard, Reece Touesnard, Kiana Touesnard (Rick), and Devon Touesnard; his furry grandchildren Riley, Fenny, and Jem; brothers Blane Touesnard (Kim), Duncan Touesnard and sister Maggie Touesnard; godchild Isla; godparents Bev and Billy Sampson; honorary daughter Josie Marshall; and honorary grandchildren Ariah Stevens and Brydon Gould. He was predeceased by his father Emile Touesnard; his paternal grandparents Viola and Roderick Touesnard; and his maternal grandparents Mary Alice and Vincent Digou. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 25th starting at 5 pm until Monday, February 27th at 10 am in the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Chapel, Highway 4 in Potlotek. Funeral mass will be held in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Peter’s on February 27th at 11 am with Rev. Duncan MacIssac officiating. Burial to be held later in St. Johns Baptist Cemetery, River Bourgeois. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., in Arichat.
