LANDRY, Cecil Alexander –Port Hawkesbury/Louisdale
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Alexander Landry, of Louisdale that occurred at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston on October 20, 2023. Born September 4, 1933 in Samsonville, he was the son of the late Amable and Alice May (Fougere) Landry.
Cecil lived a full and wonderful life. Left home at the age of 18 to work on the Great Lakes. He always looked back fondly on that time and spoke about it frequently. After 8 years on the Lakes he began to work at the local paper mill, a job he enjoyed for the next 30 plus years and made many lifelong friendships there. He had two loves, one was Verona and the second was fishing, and man could he catch fish! He was his happiest in his boat or fishing off the canal wall. His most memorable fish story was the day he was coming back from fishing mackerel in St. Peter’s Bay, he stopped at the locks in the canal and everyone there was shocked to see Cecil with an eight foot shark in his fourteen foot aluminum boat. He even gave a 'hook' (no pun intended) at teaching a few New Brunswick guys how to fish. Many a fun time was had at the old homestead in Samsonville.
Cecil is survived by his sons Blair (Jean), Evanston, and Patrick (Cheryl), Louisdale; grandchildren Nigel, Kayla (Curtis), Ashley (Jordan), Meaghan (Jarrett), Emily (Colton), Sheila (Chase), and Trevor; great-grandchildren Reid, Wyatt, Olivia, Jacie, Everett, and Cecil; sister Bertha Carter, Samsonville, and daughter-in-law Paula Landry. Cecil is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Verona (Burns) Landry, and son Cecil Jr. He was also predeceased by brother Ray and sisters Bernice and Janet.
There will be no visitation or Funeral per request. A graveside service and committal will be held in St. Louis Cemetery, in Louisdale on Saturday, November 4th at 10 a.m. with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. After graveside service there will be a reception/tea at the Louisdale Parish Hall open to the public at 11 a.m..
A special thank you to staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for the wonderful care for the last 10 months. Also a special thank you to the staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital for the end of life care in his last days.
Memorial donations can be made to your local food bank, or to the Strait Richmond Hospital Foundation.
