Neil William Smith, age 77, of D’Escousse passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the Halifax Infirmary, on January 21, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Campbellton, NB, he was the son of the late Neil and Lillian (Thompson) Smith. Neil (Jr.) grew up in West River Station, Pictou Co. NS. He was a retired carpenter, doing both residential and commercial projects. Neil enjoyed working side by side with his son Raymond on some of these projects. He also loved playing cards, darts, and softball, but mostly dancing. He would have Yolande up on the floor as soon as the music would begin to play and they were the last to leave. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his sons, Leslie, Oromocto, NB, and Raymond (Tanya) Hammonds Plains, his partner Yolande, Arichat, her children; Louise (Andrew), Simon (Dawn), Dan (Kristina), sisters; Carol (Donald) Kelly, Phyllis Smith and Sandra (Neil) Ross, all of Westville, brother; Roland (Pauline), Brampton, ON. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Blanche Smith, Petit de Grat, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of life is scheduled for March 2, 2024, from 2 - 4 pm at the D'Ecousse Civic Improvement Society Hall in D'Escousse. Donations in memory of Neil may be made to D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society Hall.
