Phillip Wayne Bonin Obituary

Bonin, Philip Wayne, 77, Lower L'Ardoise passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 3, 2024, at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Claire (Bonin) Dawson.

From an early age, Phil possessed a strong work ethic and undertook many tasks, dealing with each one aggressively and according to exact detail. For Phil, every job was important and worth doing well.

An exciting opportunity and active business venture for both Phil and his wife Sandy were franchise operators of the Irving Big Stop in Aulds Cove, which they managed for six and one-half years. Working in the construction industry Phil traveled much of the Atlantic Provinces and Western Canada, as a job estimator and project manager. He spent a number of years working for All Steel Builders and most recently, Scotia Sheet Metals.

Phil had a passion for Antique Vehicles and it was great therapy working on them. He loved the outdoors and welcomed any opportunity to fish or hunt. He was also a proud member of L'Ardoise Legion, Branch 110.

A music enthusiast, he loved playing guitar on Saturday nights. He also taught many children how to play the guitar.

Phil was known for his pleasant demeanor. Always had a warm smile and his signature "handshake" was your introduction to his greeting you.

Phil is survived by his best friend and soul mate of 51 years, Sandra "Sandi" MacDonnell. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters.

The family would like to acknowledge the caring support of staff at Strait Richmond and St. Martha's Hospital, EHS, First Responders, and close friends, especially Barry and Annette Sampson.

At Phil's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private committal will occur at a later date.

Following the committal of ashes, family and friends are welcome to join us for a luncheon gathering on Friday, August 16th, L'Ardoise Community Center @ 12:00 Noon.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat.
