MARSHALL, Michael Joseph
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph “Mike Moose” Marshall of Potlotek which occurred at QE 11 Health Science Centre VG Site in Halifax on August 6, 2024.
Born January 30, 1968, in Sydney, he was the son of Irene (Marshall) Johnson of Potlotek, and the late Andrew Kenzie Marshall.
Mike was a Red Seal Carpenter. He spent many years working away in Halifax before returning home to put his carpentry skills to work to help build his community, which he was very fond of. Potlotek was home to Mike. Mike's greatest accomplishment was his family. Tammy and his girls meant everything to him. His love for Tammy was endless. The biggest gift he could give his family was his time, and he didn’t short them on that. Mike could always be found with a few kids in tow. His happiest times were always spent with his grandkids. His family is forever grateful for the time Mike spent making memories with them. Mike Moose, as he was best known, was an avid hunter. He enjoyed going on hunting trips with Jimmy, even when they came back with nothing but stories to tell. He also enjoyed spending time in the highlands with his grandchildren teaching them how to hunt and gather. Mike made many trips to Margaree to cast his line and try his luck. He had many family and friends who enjoyed standing next to him on the river bank and listening to his stories. Mike had a great sense of humour and didn’t have a problem sharing a laugh. Mike will truly be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.
Besides his mother Irene Johnson, Mike is survived by the love of his life Tammy Marie (MacIsaac); daughters Winter (Cleveland), Alicia Marshall, Jessica Marshall, Eliza (Mark Collet), all of Potlotek, and Brooke Marshall (Dylan Sampson), L’Ardoise; grandchildren Sage Marshall, Amarallis Marshall, Athena Marshall, Lake Nicholas, Ember Nicholas, Leland Googoo, Lachan Googoo, Dakota Francis, Jeremiah Johnson, and Xander Marshall; brothers Jimmy Marshall (Dawn), Durward Marshall (Marviel), John Boy Marshall, and Thomas (Garfield) Marshall all of Potlotek; sisters Mary Collier, Karen Marshall (Ernest O’Toole), Gwenn Brake (Shawn), Kyanne Marshall, Jennifer Marshall, Michelle Marshall, Shauna Marshall, and Sonya Marshall all of Potlotek, Andrea Stevens (Scott), Charmaine Greencorn (Kelly), both of Sydney, Roberta Marshall, and Andrea Dennis both of Membertou, Robin Dennis, and Tabatha Dennis both of Eskasoni. Mike is also survived by his one and only godchild Stacy Mallory Battiste, Potlotek.
Besides his father Andre Kenzie Marshall, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents James Marshall (Jiggs), and Mary Ellen Marshall nee (Nicholas), and his maternal grandparents Richard Johnson, and Esther Johnson nee (Paul); nephews Robert Kenny, Gregory Michael, and Nicholas in infancy; niece April Rose, and uncle Allister Marshall.
