BACCARDAX, Donald Joseph, 76 of Grand Anse, NS
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Baccardax at his home
on Thursday, January 16, 2025 with his family by his side.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean Marie Baccardax (nee Boudreau); his two
sons Wayland (Angela MacDonald) of Grand Anse and Warren (Lori Ann) of Ottawa;
grandchildren Matthew (Louisdale), Mitchell, Cora, and Andrew (all of Ottawa).
Don grew up in False Bay (River Bourgeois, Cape Breton) with his parents, the late Tobie Joseph & Cecelia Neta (Fougere) Baccardax and his siblings, including his late sister Faye (the late Roger Flinn); Sally of River Bourgeois; his late sister Joan; his late brother Lorne (Lenette) of Hubbards; and Peter (Sherry) of River Bourgeois. His special childhood bond with his late cousin Earl Fougere (Farmington Hills, MI) continued throughout their lives. Also survived by sister in laws: Sharon Marchand (Wayne), Rosalie Day (Eric) and Geralyn Boudreau. He is predeceased by sister in laws Elizabeth Landry (Joe) and Catherine Anne Sampson (Francis) along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don was a hard worker who held a variety of jobs throughout the years including bank teller,
retail manager at Zellers, disability support worker, labourer in a Sudbury Ontario smelter, and
lastly as a tinsmith for 42 years at the pulp mill in Port Hawkesbury. He loved all materials and
understood that each had a different purpose, but he was especially fond of stainless steel. He
was a Master Craftsman (a surgeon) and in his glory designing, grinding and fabricating various
complex yet functional projects. He was a proud and dedicated Union man serving as both Chief Shop Steward and Vice President of the Canadian Paperworkers Union Local 972. Those who knew him quickly learned how passionate he was about nature, music and meaningful quotes. One of his favorite sayings came from the ‘Law of Conservation of Mass’ which brought him great peace and comfort, “Matter cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed”. This saying and memory now brings some comfort and peace to those left behind.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral mass as per Don’s request.
Don’s family and friends will miss him dearly and will celebrate his life the way he would want
with a celebration party when all the family can be together at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
Don’s family wish to thank the staff at the Strait Richmond & Strait Richmond Palliative Care
Society for the care provided to him. Special thanks to Amber LeBlanc for her support, time and compassion with Don and his family in his last hours.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat
