Obituary of Claude Ulysse Poirier
Please share a memory of Claude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In celebration of a life well lived, we are saddened to have to announce the passing of Claude Ulysse Poirier,78 of D'Escousse, on March 12, 2014. Born in Arichat, he was the youngest son of the late Lauchlin and Anita (Pertus) Poirier. Where do we even start to tell you about this kind, genuine, fair, lovable, fun spirited, young hearted man. He was a retired bus driver of Richmond District School Board for over 35 years. He was the first President (Commodore) of the Lennox Passage Yacht Club. He and his brother owned and operated Poirier's Esso in D'Escousse for over 50 years. He was an active member and volunteer of the D'Escousse Civic Improvement Hall and Parish. Claude thoroughly enjoyed his life when he was delivering veggies from his garden, eggs, sailing in his boat, riding his ATV and meeting and greeting everyone who came through the door of his and Sandra's home, sharing a bucket of clams and drink. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and passing on his words of wisdom as he did for his children. And if it can be said, he really kicked into gear, living life after he retired at 70. It was a common sight to see Claude walking through D'Escousse in his rubber boots with a glass in his hand as he watched over his community he was so proud of, as the unofficial Mayor of D'Escousse. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Elizabeth (LeBrun) Poirier, of 52 years; daughters, Elise Poirier (Paul LeBlanc), Fort McMurray, Claudette Bourinot (David), Martinique, Lorette Poirier (Darwin Lemay), Evanston, Danielle Pyke (Michael), Louisdale; son Claude (Michelle Delorey), Poulamon; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Dawson, Adam, Jacob, Matthew, Jessie, Andrew, Garret, Samantha, Gracie; brother Russell (Mary), D'Escousse; sister Claire Baccardax, Halifax. He was predeceased by his brother Norman; sister Thelma Poan. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Hyacinth Church, D'Escousse on Friday afternoon at 12 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Gillies officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the family, Isle Madame ATV Rider's Association or to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat. To send words of comfort to the family, or to light a candle in memory of Claude, please visit www.chboudreau.com
