Fran and family, Our deepest sympathies on Bernie's passing. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care, Jean Hatfield, Jacalyn Leeco and Andrea Hatfield-Beaton
My deepest sympathy to Shawna and to the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Their Dad Bernie - I never met - but his girls I know quite well ... and I call them "Friend".
Reared in Mabou - close to home - their Dad hailed from Pondville and married well - to 'Fran' ... a lovely lass and hard worker - Aunt Edith told me so. Twas Auntie's junior but not for long - soon a peer and life long friend. The girls moved north to ply their trades and, like their Mom, the best of workers. Quick and witty they made friends galore. Always ladies, big of heart, ever patient - bearing wisdom past their years thus great credits to their Dad.
Bernie like the "zinger' so we're told - as do his daughters that's for sure. One day amongst a group, I reminded youngest: "You are not a 'Novie" but a 'Caper' - born and bred!" Seconds later came the shot: "I thought you, Ontarian!" Yes this Blue Noser felt the pain with note to self: "Don't Heckle Bernie's".
The sons, as well, I've never met but sisters say they - like their Dad - are darn fine men.
For all of you the loss is great but know this true: As you loved he - he loved you too.
We were fortunate enough to meet Mr. O'Hearn at various times during our visits to Cape Breton through the years as we would visit the O'Hearn sisters (Shawna and Maria). Every time we would come, we would be welcomed with a kind smile and witty jokes (or cheezy puns) that would make us all laugh and are still quoted amongst ourselves to this day. Just last year our entourage, including us, our three children, parents and a brother (that's 8 of us in total!), paid a visit to Isle Madame. It was our great honour to be able to re-introduce our 2 boys and introduce our new daughter to "Grandpa O".
We were saddened to hear of Mr. O'Hearn's passing but are grateful that our family was able to meet and get to know Mr. O'Hearn through the years. His daughters are an important part of our lives, and he was obviously central to theirs. Our deepest condolences to the O'Hearn family from the Aramburo family (Chad, Rae-Lynne, Nelson, Salvador and Dia Aramburo) as well as Arme, Mila and Brad Aramburo.

I always love to vist with Fran & Bernie, always feel very at home with them. Also, I loved sending zingers back and forth with Bernie, [and he had some good ones!] I like to think I could keep up with him in the zinger department, but, alas. I think I failed, however Bernie did get a few chuckles out of my zingers!
I remember Bernie trying to teach me how to drive on the lower road in Arichat, that was an unforgettable adventure, for Bernie! It must have turned out ok, I have only had 1 accident in 50 years, [a minor one] .
Bernie, you will always be missed in our home.
Many huggs to Fran, Shawna, Bernard, Luke, Maria, the Grandchildren and siblings XO
