Obituary of Loretta Mary Bona

BONA, Loretta Mary (98) of West Arichat. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on October 30, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Born in West Arichat on August 20, 1917, She was the daughter of the late Joseph Fougere and Minnie Babin. Loretta is survived by her 10 children; Daughters: Barbara Gore (David), Marie Bona, Pauline Bona, Corinne O'Reilly (Charles) all of Halifax, Avis Gerrior (Herman) Truro; Sons Leonard (Lucille), Wayne (Sandra) both of Bedford, Kenneth (Brenda), Dartmouth, David (Michelle) Peter (Annette) both of Calgary; 21 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick Stanley (Paul) Bona (1977); grandson Paul Thornton; granddaughters Shelley Thornton and Jennifer Lesperance; son-in-law David Gore. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family of 10 brothers and sisters. Loretta grew up in West Arichat and married her teenage sweetheart Paul Bona in 1946. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother great grandmother and great great grandmother. For the past number of years Loretta has lived between Halifax and West Arichat sharing her daily life with daughter and caregiver Pauline and we are grateful for the many gatherings of love and sharing. She leaves a lasting memory of love and devotion for her family and many other lives whom she has touched with her kindness and love. Loretta believed in hard work and lived a totally selfless life, always doing for her family. Many people enjoyed "Nanny B's" famous tea-biscuits and homemade bread over the years! Prayers, rosary, and a deep love of God were always in her daily life. We are deeply saddened that you have left this life, you will be missed Mom, Nanny "B", Loretta but forever remembered. Our Lord, as well as other family members await you in heaven with open arms. As you often said "Cheers to be together", we shall continue to toast you at family gatherings (Brandy for you Mom)! Rest in peace dear angel, you will forever be in our hearts and minds.Thank you to Dr. Rebecca Decoste ( Halifax), Dr. Laurie MacNeil (Arichat) for the excellent care you have given our mom, Loretta, over the years. Thank you to Dr. Bussey and nurses of 8.4 wing of Halifax Infirmary (QEII) as well as EHS (emergency services). There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will take place in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, West Arichat.
