Obituary of Beatrix Dorothea Howell
Please share a memory of Beatrix to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Howell, Beatrix Dorothea
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Beatrix to be with her Lord Jesus on October 9, 2016.
Born during the German occupation of Holland in 1941, her father Hank Turkstra named her after the crown princess Beatrix as a way to demonstrate his loyalty to the Dutch royal family.
Predeceased by her brother Jouwert, she will be remembered with love and affection by her sisters, Brunette and Jenny in Holland and Aly in Australia. She will be sadly missed by her husband James as well as her stepdaughters Megan and Kerry, and two grandchildren residing in the US.
Fluent in five languages, she was a tour guide in Spain before becoming a
head stewardess for Pan American World Airways for ten years.
In spite of all her world travels, she spoke most fondly of Cape Breton Island and the people living there. She settled in River Bourgeois in 2003 with her husband where they operated "Eagle's Rest," a bed and breakfast for missionaries and pastors who need a time of rest.
She had many fond memories on the family sailboat "Queen Bea", plying the waters of the Bras d'or Lakes.
Her greatest legacy however, will be the way she touched the lives of those around her by her faith in the Lord Jesus. Leading Bible studies and giving comfort to those in need through prayer and counseling. Matthew 5:16 was her favorite scripture: "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 1 - 2 p.m. in the Richmond Villa in St. Peter's with a celebration of her homecoming to be held at 2:00 PM.
We wish to thank the doctors and staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital for the excellent care which Beatrix received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat.
