Yes mon oncle Asem had so many stories about the camp or something he would dream about or something that would happen when he went somewhere!! There were many stories but his tricks always topped everything else. The potatoe in the shoes I think was his best!!! If you went to visit him and Mémé while you were chatting with Mémé he would put the potatoe in your shoe/shoes or tie them together and just wait for you to leave. Then he would be in splits laughing over his trick!! The famous paper bag trick he liked to play if there was a brown paper bag around. He would blow it up and when you weren't looking hit the bottom of the bag to make a loud bang!! Yes Mon Oncle Asem and his many tricks won't be forgotten and neither will he. The famous Juicy Fruit gum, it was his favorite and you could count on him having a few extra sticks to pass around!! He loved bingo and playing cards. He loved to play 52 pick-up till we got wise to that one!! hehe I must also mention he never forgot my birthday!! He would make a trip to the house to come wish me a happy birthday, how thoughtful of him!! I know you are in a place where you won't have any more aches or pains, that you are probably having a game a crib with Mémé, Aunt Lill & Mom. You will never be forgotten!!
Love, Deltina, Ralph & family
Uncle Anselm loved to play bingo, cribbage, and 45. He is the one who taught me how to play cribbage. Uncle Anselm also loved to say jokes and play tricks. He liked to put a potatoe in your shoe, he sure would have a good laugh. He would say give me your hand. You would give him your hand and his would be closed and he would put his hand over your hand and he would drop a penny and laugh and rub his nose. He got such a kick out of doing something like that, that I will never forget it or him. He was kind hearted and would get emotional when speaking about something sad. He will always be remembered for his many jokes or tricks but also his never ending stories that he would tell us. You will be missed!!
We love you, Vivian and Gordon and family
Mon Oncle Anselm, by Curtis Briand Thank you for the fond memories ,the laughs, the jokes, the stories,oh yes! the crib games we shared over the years. You'll be missed, but when thinking of you,I'll smile remembering times we shared together playing crib and helping you find the "Seek a Word" puzzle. God bless you.
To the family of the late Anselm Boudreau. Very sorry for your loss. I remember Anselm as a very kind and gentle man who had a great smile. He will be mentioned in our prayers. Rhonda and Junior Bowen Rockay Bay, NS
Oncle Anselm, as a lot of us knew him, was an avid card and bingo player. Often, before I knew how to play cribbage, I'd watch my Grandmother and he playing and wonder what the heck a 15-2 was. I also remember "mon oncle" using a scythe to cut the tall grass on the hill near the home he shared with my Grandmother all his life. He had a seemingly endless supply of juicy fruit and I've been asked that famous question, "Ton mere mange-ti du tabbac?" on many an occasion myself. Camp stories abounded as well but the thing I believe I'll remember most about my uncle is his willingness to laugh and tell jokes. I don't think I'll be able to drive as many miles as he walked between Petit de Grat and Arichat. We shared a fondness for peanut butter and Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling on Saturday afternoons. For the many jokes, stories, sticks of gum and toffees, as well as for your laughter and spirit, I simply want to say, Merci mon Oncle. Je vais certainement vous manquez. Reposer en paix.
To the family of the late Anselm Boudreau, sending my message of condolences to all of you. May he rest in peace, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Darlene (Landry) Osmond
Where do I start with stories of Uncle Anselm? He has been part of our family for as long as I can remember. So much time was spent with him in Little Barrachois and when he and Mémé spent the winters at Mom and Dad's in Sydney. Who can forget getting their nose buttered by Uncle Anselm on birthdays? How about the never ending supply of Juicy Fruit Gum in the cupboard at Mémé's? He puzzled me as a child for a long time with "Ta mère mange-ti tabac?" ....which was always followed by that memorable laugh of his. At some point I realized that the answer was "No". Hahaha! He had many fond memories of his time spent at "The Camp", a summer camp for the blind where he formed lasting friendships and had many stories to share about it with us. Just last week at The Cove, my sister, Danette, reminisced how Uncle Anselm taught us how to drive a standard (well, we imagined that we could do it!)….the old car was on blocks next to the old barn and Uncle Anselm never had a license! I remember going to Bingo with him at the Venetian Gardens in Sydney and quickly learned that you do not call "BINGO!" on incorrectly hearing 65 when you needed 75! I remember how Uncle Anselm would walk from Barrachois to Petit-de-Grat or Arichat to visit with friends or go church. And then there's cribbage….he enjoyed the game and he played it with many of us. He sure loved to win and especially "Got a kick of it" (as he would say) whenever he could skunk us. One of his favorite expressions was, "It happens"....so true. And….as it happens…a wonderful, gentle and kind soul has left us to join Mémé and my mother in that big crib game in heaven. God bless you, Uncle Anselm. You will be missed. Love you!
